Dr. Dayle SPitzer
Superintendent
Dayle Spitzer has been the Superintendent of Oregon City since 2022. Prior to coming to OCSD, she served as a teacher at the Junior High, Middle and Elementary School level as well as a Curriculum and Instruction Teacher on Special Assignment. Her first administrative position was as an elementary principal at a Dual Language School. She then became a Level Executive Director and ultimately Assistant Superintendent of Schools for all K-12 schools in Hillsboro School District. She has also taught courses for Lewis and Clark College's Educational Program.
Dayle earned her Doctorate from the University of Oregon in 2021 focusing on Hispanic student success. She has a passion for ensuring all students have pathways to college and career and also maximizing each student's natural skills and talents for their life success.
In her free time she can be found outdoors- hiking, traveling or exploring- and also enjoys reading, mentoring and connecting with young adults, and spending time with her two amazing children.
Dr. Sarah crane
Assistant Superintendent
Dr. Sarah Crane has been the Assistant Superintendent in the Oregon City School District since 2024. Dr. Crane's professional journey began in 2002 as a Special Education teacher in Alabama, followed by roles in both Texas and Oregon. She has served as a Special Education Coordinator and Director for InterMountain Education Service District (ESD), where she provided support and guidance to twelve school districts in areas such as special education services, behavior support, state reporting, and teacher training.
In addition to her extensive experience in special education, Dr. Crane has held leadership positions as a principal at Ione Community School and Jackson Elementary School in Hillsboro, Oregon. She supported the leadership at high school for greater access to career and college opportunities and improved graduation rates for students experiencing disabilities. Most recently, she served as the Executive Director of Schools in Hillsboro School District, overseeing middle and elementary school principals and school programs.
Jason Jensen
Chief Financial Officer
Jason brings a unique perspective to the Oregon City School District business office after serving 25 years as classroom teacher - 16 of them, owning and operating a business. His passion for the financial side of business and love for the institution of education has led him to the dream of investing the next chapter of his career serving in a role that synthesizes these two parts of his professional life. He completed his Master of Business Administration from Washington State University in 2017 as well as a Master’s in Education from Eastern Oregon University in 2003. In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife and young adult children, running & cycling, and doing projects around his home.
Lisa NOrmand
Director of Human Resources
Ms. Normand has been an Oregon City School District educator for over 20 years. She began her career in education as the Director of the 21st Century Grant in 2002. She completed a Master’s degree in School Counseling at George Fox University and held a counseling position at Ogden Middle School for four years. She went on to supervise Community Education before becoming an elementary and middle school administrator. In 2020 she took on the role of the Director of Communication and Community Partnerships. Then in 2022, she accepted the Director of Human Resources and Communications position.
Lisa is deeply committed to the Oregon City community and school district and is proud to be an OCHS graduate. In her free time, she enjoys walking, traveling, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Michael Sweeten
Director of Operations and Capital Projects
Born and raised in Oregon, Michael earned his Bachelor's degree in Business, equipping him with valuable skills in management and strategic thinking. However, his desire to make a positive impact in the lives of students led him to pursue a Master's degree in Education. Michael's career in education began in 2000 when he stepped into the role of a Spanish-English bilingual teacher at Candy Lane Elementary. He worked with students in grades 4th through 6th, fostering their language acquisition and cultural understanding. With a desire to effect change at a broader level, Michael transitioned into school administration. He spent his initial five years at Holcomb Elementary. Following his time at Holcomb, he spent two years at Candy Lane/Jennings Lodge Elementary, further honing his administrative skills and collaborating with educators to enhance student outcomes. In 2011, Michael was entrusted with the responsibility of leading Gardiner Middle School as its principal. Over the course of four years, he spearheaded various initiatives aimed at creating a positive and inclusive learning environment including planning principal for the 2018 Bond. Building upon his successful tenure as a principal, Michael's career trajectory led him to assume the position of Director of Operations. In this role, he oversees the efficient functioning of the district, ensuring smooth operations and optimal resource allocation. Throughout his 23 year educational career, he has been deeply committed to providing quality education and fostering an environment where students can thrive. His strong business background, coupled with his extensive experience in education and administration, has equipped him with a unique skill set to address the challenges faced by educational institutions.
Melissa Berg
Director of Student Services
Melissa started her career in education as a Learning Specialist at the elementary and middle school levels. She has been in Oregon City School District for 9 years, as a teacher on special assignment (TOSA), Associate Director of Student Services, and is currently stepping into her second year as Director. Melissa earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in special education, followed by a Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning with an endorsement in Special Education and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports from University of Oregon. After many years of teaching she then pursued her Administrative License from Lewis and Clark College and followed up with her Professional Administrative License from Portland State University. With a passion for fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments, Melissa has dedicated her career to advocating for students experiencing disabilities. As the Director of Student Services, Melissa has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing services and support for students. Under her guidance, the district has achieved notable improvements in inclusion rates and bringing students back from outside placements. Her collaborative approach, data-driven decision-making, understanding of IDEA law, and focus on inclusive based practices position her to make a significant impact on the education system, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to make meaningful progress. Under the Students Services umbrella includes; Special Education, Section 504, nursing services, counseling, Social Emotional Learning, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), Intervention Team, Mckinney-Vento, and many more. She oversees a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including counselors, social workers, school psychologists, nurses, motor team, and student services facilitators, ensuring that every student receives the necessary support and services to thrive. Melissa actively participates in district-level committees, advocating for student-centric policies and initiatives. She collaborates with principals, and teams to implement targeted interventions and support systems that address individual student needs. Melissa is a native Oregonian who enjoys the outdoors, exercising, traveling, and spending time with her family which includes her husband and 3 young kids.
